WebCoprococcus is a butyrate-producing genus in the phylum Firmicutes, and its abundance is inversely correlated with several neuropsychological and neurodegenerative disorders. Case–control studies provide strong evidence of decreased abundance of Coprococcus spp. in depressed individuals.
